marine safety and environmental protection

Martijn Drenth is an Ocean Environmental Protector

By applying his talent in safety in oil risk management he protects the vulnerable marine environment in Australia.

Marine safety and environmental protection engineer Martijn is an environmental, safety and risk specialist in the oil and marine environment with over 20 years’ experience in delivering facility design input, project approvals and assurance processes on national and international oil and gas projects, assisting both operators and contractors during all project phases. His hands-on industry experience combined with highly developed HSE management skills, enables him to communicate at all levels. His people skills, team player attitude and tried perspective in HSE management enables him to generate solutions optimising HSE performance and project execution.

Martijns oil and gas industry focussed educational background combined with his practical offshore experience, enables him to identify and manage the wide variety of environmental and safety aspects associated with oil and gas activities. He has played an integral role in facility design and operational processes to eliminate/reduce risk at source and developed innovative, realistic, practical mitigation measures to reduce hazards to as low as reasonably practicable. As well as leading risk review workshops in a variety of formats, Martijn managed risk assessment outcomes by delivering tailor made risk management systems to ensure mitigation measures are adopted during operations. His ability to translate regulatory requirements, engineering and science into practical execution, enhances the understanding between technical and non-technical worlds and results in clearly defined controls, design decisions, project specifications and processes.

Martijn has realised project environmental and safety approvals on behalf of operators and contractors, utilising his knowledge of the specific steps in the relevant permitting processes, identifying associated milestones and establishing realistic approval timelines. He instigated essential internal and external stakeholder engagement to achieve local acceptance and project support by bridging the stakeholders’ gaps in understanding of key project objectives.
